Does your general practice incorporate quality improvement activities?

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) has an increased focus on integrating QI into the operations of primary healthcare providers, with many current projects incorporating several QI methodologies and processes. The workshop aims to build the capacity of all general practice staff members to understand and apply QI activities that are relevant to their patient population and business development needs.

Speakers:

  • Dr Richard Bills | General Practitioner and Member of DHHS Victorian Clinical Council
  • Lisa Taliana | Data Quality in Practice, North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network
  • Natalie Eykman | Business Development Coordinator, North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network
  • Gillian Cass | Chronic Disease Management in Practice, North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network
Dr Bills is a GP from Woodend with a strong interest in Clinical Quality Improvement. He has been engaged with  the Improvement Foundation of Australia since its inception in 2005 and has assisted in QI activities in both urban and rural settings in all the Eastern seaboard states and South Australia. He currently sits on the DHHS Victorian Clinical Council where he advocates for better data sharing and integration between primary care and acute care in this state.

Learning outcomes:

  • Use the PENCAT tool to identify a need for change and improve the quality of your practice data;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how QI is related to your work in general practice;
  • Apply QI methods to your change idea;
  • Implement and sustain QI activities to improve patient outcomes and business development.
