This program is designed to provide basic skills and knowledge for health professionals to deliver detailed information and advice in relation to nutrition and dietary management

In the current status of the current COVID-19 health emergency, this session is scheduled to progress as planned.

Should the advice from the Chief Health Officer escalate mitigations to minimise public gatherings, we will reconsider.

We will keep you informed of any changes as they become known to us.

The Nutrition Support Program is a one day course that includes a lecture and practical workshop activities. These involve the skills and knowledge required to support the provision of basic nutrition education to clients receiving diet therapy under the direction of a dietitian. Participants will be able to demonstrate appropriate strategies to monitor a client’s response to information and education and comply with the instructions of the Dietitian and be aware of protocols for client documentation.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this session you will be able to

  • Comprehend and educate patients on the nutritional requirements and the body systems involved and also the related anatomy
  • Discuss the principles of nutrition
  • Utilise appropriate resources for dietary education and assist with the provision of basic and scripted dietary and nutrition information for patients
  • Demonstrate strategies to monitor a client’s response to the information and education and comply with the instructions of a Dietitian

***COVID-19 update to everyone registering for our training and events***

The situation is continuing to evolve quickly. At present there are a small number of confirmed cases in Victoria and all our events will go ahead as planned.

Nonetheless, it is critical that we all remember the principles of infection control and take extra steps to guard against the spread of COVID-19:

  • WASH your hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds. DRY with paper towel or hand dryer.

  • TRY not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

  • COVER your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.

  • HAND SANITISER is available in all our meeting rooms. Please use this.

  • SHAKING HANDS is optional!

  • MAINTAIN at least 1 metre distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

  • DON’T ATTEND if you are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever, breathing difficulties such as breathlessness, cough, sore throat, fatigue or tiredness).

  • If you have any of the symptoms above and travelled overseas recently or been in close contact with someone who has coronavirus, visit dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus and follow the latest advice for the Victorian public.
