This free training aims to increase your understanding and support in the development of culturally appropriate services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) people, with special reference to working with trans and gender diverse people.

This session is targeted at NWMPHN TPS and ISS providers who would like to increase their knowledge and skills working with trans and gender diverse people. There will also be the opportunity to reinforce how to practice more effectively with the LGBTIQ community.

The session is a mix of interactive activities, discussion and tips delivered in a safe and non-judgmental environment by people who have lived LGBTIQ experience. 

Speakers 
Sally Goldner 
Sally has been actively involved in Melbourne’s queer community for the last 20 years. This includes ongoing involvement with TGV: presenter of 3CR’s “Out of the Pan” radio program, Treasurer of Bisexual Allliance Victoria and co-facilitator of Transfamily.

Kathi Wilson
Kathi has training in psychological research and has worked in counselling for a number of years. During 2011-2014, she served on the committee of Bisexual Allilance Victoria running education sessions on bisexuality and joined TGV’s training team in 2014. Kathi’s passion is ensuring that people are aware of the issues faced by those who are LGBTIQ and helping upskill allies and professionals to support people in this area.

Learning outcomes:

  • Provide culturally appropriate services for LBBTIQ people
  • Identify the range of issues facing the LGBTIQ community
  • Understand aspects of good practice and inclusive services for LGBTIQ clients.
