The LGBTIQA+ Affirmative Healthcare series is designed to encourage GPs and other health care professionals in the Macedon Ranges and surrounding regional areas to build their capacity to provide affirming and person-centred care to LGBTIQA+ patients and service users.

By embedding LGBTIQA+ affirmative care into our practices, we can overcome the health disparity between LGBTIQA+ people and the broader community, and move towards a more equitable health system for everyone.

Participate in this session, designed for GPs, health and aged care professionals and:

  • Consolidate your understanding of sex, gender and sexuality
  • Understand the impact of historical discrimination
  • Be introduced to an evidence base of the experiences of homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and intersex prejudice, and their impacts on the health, wellbeing, visibility for older LGBTI people, and barriers of access to care and support as they age
  • Discuss frameworks and strategies (including aged care legislative reforms) to improve cultural safety for LGBTI consumers and staff

This workshop will be facilitated by Pauline Crameri and Andrew Rogers from Val’s LGBTI Ageing & Aged Care at Rainbow Health Victoria. Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care works to improve healthy ageing pathways, care and visibility of older LGBTI people. They work directly with service providers to foster an understanding of the histories and experiences of older LGBTI people, and how these may impact access to services and care. Val’s aims to create safe and inclusive services that recognise and value older LGBTI people.

This workshop has been made possible with funding from North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.

The training will take place over Zoom - registrants will be emailed a Zoom link prior to the event.
