An introduction to Cultural Safety in Aboriginal health. This workshop is designed to provide an understanding of Cultural Safety within your Health organisation.

 
For GPs, practice staff and Allied health providers.
 
Facilitator - This training will be delivered by the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation Inc. (VACCHO), the peak body for Aboriginal health in Victoria.
 
Event to satisfy the Cultural Awareness Training requirement as part of the Federal Government - Closing the Gap in Health Initiative (2008). A general practice staff training requirement relating directly to the Indigenous Health Incentive (IHI), one of the Practice Incentive Programs (PIP). 
 
VACCHO’s cultural safety training promotes a safe environment to enable useful discussions and interactions to take place through two-way communications between participants and facilitators.
 

Learning outcomes:

The course content offered will further your understanding of how to work effectively with Aboriginal people and will cover the following topics:
 
• Aboriginal people and communities
• Status of Aboriginal health
• Impact of history on Aboriginal people
• Strategies to redress current issues
• The Victorian Aboriginal community health sector and closing the
health gap
• Resources and contact listings
