Advanced level training designed to support GPs in initiating treatment and managing people living with HIV in general practice and provide the opportunity for participants to establish relationships with local specialist services for ongoing mentoring and referral.

Day One: Saturday June 15th, 2019 - 8:30am - 5:00pm
Day Two: Sunday June 16th, 2019 - 8:30am - 4:15pm


Held over two days, the course will consist of modules on ARV
therapy, screening and monitoring, toxicities and adverse effects,
special scenarios, and clinical skills development. Facilitators will
include Dr Olga Vujovic, Professor Jenny Hoy, Dr Matt Penn, and
Dr Mark O'Reilly.

Travel Grants:
Travel grants may be provided to GPs in rural and remote Victoria to attend the course and become a HIV s100 prescriber. For more information please contact: VHHITAL@nwmphn.org.au  

Please note this course is funded by the Victorian State Govt and interstate participants are welcome to attend subject to space. A $660 fee will apply for all interstate participants. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe the principles of initiation of antiretroviral therapy
  • Evaluate the complexity of factors influencing patients’ treatment decisions
  • Develop a clinical management plan for a patient on therapy, incorporating strategies for health promotion and harm minimization
  • Describe the contributing factors to the development of treatment toxicities and antiretroviral resistance
  • Identify appropriate referral pathways for complex HIV issues including salvage therapy, women considering pregnancy and IRIS
