Blood borne viruses

Advanced level training that will enable Victorian GPs and Nurse Practitioners to effectively diagnose, manage and treat chronic hepatitis B in the primary care setting. Successful completion of the training and assessment will accredit community-based medical practitioners to prescribe s100 highly specialised drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.

This course is in high demand and places are limited. We kindly ask that you only register if you intend to gain HBV s100 accreditation and can commit to all the live sessions and the following course work:


Prior to the course:

Completion of the pre-course online learning, including:

Pre-course survey (10 minutes to complete)

Hepatitis B introductory online modules (approx. 1 hour to complete)


During the course:

The course will run over 3 weeks, you will be required to complete the assigned tasks and webinars that will take approximately 2.5 hours per week. These include:


1. Completion of pre-recorded video modules: Between each webinar, video lectures (approx. 30 mins) will be available for participants to watch at time that suits them. The interactive webinar activities will be based on learnings from these video lectures.


2. Live webinars: Attendance of three webinars is compulsory for successful completion of the course and is required to receive accreditation. You must attend the following dates and times:

Tuesday 29th June 6:45pm – 8:45pm AEST

Tuesday 6th July 6:45pm – 8:45pm AEST

Tuesday 13th July 6:45pm – 8:45pm AEST


3. Completion of assignment: One assignment must be completed during the course, which includes a case study and takes approx. 30 mins to complete.


After the course:

A post-course online assessment and survey must be completed. The assessment comprises of thirty case-based multiple-choice questions to be completed by 13th August 2021. Participants must pass this assessment to become an accredited Hepatitis B s100 prescriber.

Learning outcomes:

  • Outline the critical role of primary care in the diagnosis, management and treatment of people living with chronic hepatitis B ​
  • Plan long-term care, including guideline-based monitoring and hepatocellular carcinoma screening, for patients with chronic hepatitis B ​
  • Select and prescribe first-line antiviral treatment when clinically indicated ​
  • Identify situations where specialist advice or referral is required  ​
  • Integrate principles of person-centered and culturally competent care into hepatitis B management ​
