Advanced level training that will enable GPs to effectively diagnose, manage and treat chronic hepatitis B in the primary care setting. Successful completion of the training and assessment will accredit community-based medical practitioners to prescribe s100 highly specialised drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.
This interactive coursewill involve online learning modules, in-depth presentations, case discussions, and facilitated group work giving attendees an opportunity to discuss practical strategies with peers and specialists.
It will be facilitated by:
- Professor Benjamin Cowie - Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Viral Hepatitis at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity
- Dr Nicole Allard- General Practitioner and Hep B S100 prescriber at cohealth with a clinical and research interest in Viral hepatitis.
Please note:
This training has been developed for General Practitioners. Due to high demand and need for increased prescribers in Victoria, GPs will be given first preference for registrations.
If you are successful in registering for this event and become unavailable, it is essential you provide 2 weeks notice to allow adequate time for a person on the waiting list to do the pre-course work and attend in your place.

Travel Grants:
Travel grants may be provided to GPs in rural and remote Victoria to attend the course and become a HBV s100 prescriber. For more information please contact: VHHITAL@nwmphn.org.au
Please note this course is funded by the Victorian State Govt and interstate participants are welcome to attend subject to space. A $660 fee will apply for all interstate participants.

Learning outcomes:
- Screen at risk patients appropriately
- Plan antiviral treatment for HBV infection
- Utilise treatment protocols for monitoring patients’ responses to HBV antiviral therapy
- Implement shared care between primary and tertiary settings including appropriate referrals
- Develop management plans for patients requiring ongoing monitoring
