Mental health

Do you see children and adolescents with mental health problems? Do you ever struggle with knowing how to assess or manage them? Do you wish you could gain access to a child and adolescent psychiatrist? The Child Mental Health Community of Practice can support you.

The Royal Children’s Hospital and NWMPHN, along with community clinicians, have co-designed a Community of Practice model to help support and upskill local clinicians in assessing and managing mental health problems in infants, children and adolescents.

We are inviting clinicians who see infants, children and adolescents with mental health concerns to take part in the Child Mental Health Community of Practice Pilot.

Funded by the Victorian Department of Health, this will involve regular virtual case discussions with two experienced child and adolescent psychiatrists from The Royal Children's Hospital – Dr Chidambaram Prakash and Dr Sarah Seth – and completion of a pre and post online survey.

The Community of Practice sessions will run one topic of interest twice a month from March to July 2021. Sessions will be held via Zoom on Wednesday evenings (6.30–7.30pm) on the following dates:

  • March 17 and 31 (Anxiety)
  • April 14 and 28 (Violence/aggressive behaviours)
  • May 12 and 26 (topic TBC by group)
  • June 9 and 23 (topic TBC by group)
  • July 14 and 28 (topic TBC by group)
