This education session will improve GP's knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of eye emergencies and hoarse voice.
An interactive 2 hour lecture style presentation for GPs and GP registrars.
There will be two specialist speakers that will present on :
- The assessment and management of eye emergencies in primary care.
- The assessment and management of hoarse voice.
Registration: 6:45pm – 7:00pm
Session: 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Learning outcomes:
- Develop an approach to navigate around emergency eye conditions in primary care, including improving skills to recognise serious eye conditions and understand early management and referral requirements.
- Describe the relevant and pertinent factors when taking an ocular history and develop a checklist of simple examination techniques and consulting room tests that will assist in the identification of common eye conditions and will minimise the chances of missing serious/emergency ocular conditions.
- Describe an approach to the assessment and management of hoarse voice and list tips/red flags for detecting serious disorders and when to refer.
- Explain how to improve vocal hygiene.
SPEAKERS
Dr June Choo, Consultant ENT Surgeon
Dr June Choo is an ENT surgeon with special interests in Voice Disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. She treats adult and paediatric patients. She is part of the multidisciplinary Voice Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Dr George Kong, Consultant Ophthalmologist
Dr George Kong is a Melbourne trained general ophthalmologist and Glaucoma subspecialist. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of routine and complex cataract and glaucoma cases. He is a consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
