VHHITAL and SEMPHN invite GPs, Nurse Practitioners and other primary healthcare professionals to attend the BBV/STI webinar series. These three informative and interactive sessions will provide you with the knowledge, information and tools required to improve services regarding viral hepatitis B, hepatitis C and common STIs for the local community and key priority populations.

These three informative and interactive sessions will provide you with the knowledge, information and tools required to improve services regarding viral hepatitis B, hepatitis C and common STIs for the local community and key priority populations.

  • Session 1: BBVs and STIs – Tuesday 24 Nov 2020 1.00 – 2.30pm
  • Session 2: STIs and PrEP – Wednesday 25 Nov 2020 1.00 – 2.30pm
  • Session 3: Hepatitis B and C – Thursday 26 Nov 2020 1.00 – 2.30pm

Please note: This webinar will contain localised data and information for the primary health care workforce in the SEMPHN region. However, much of the content is relevant to the entire Victorian workforce and registrations are open to all primary health care workers in Victoria.

Learning outcomes:

(Session 1 + 2) STIs & PrEP: An Update for Primary Care (in SEMPHN)

On completion of this training, participants are expected to be able to:

  1. Increase understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination on client outcomes
  2. Identify at-risk patients to screen for syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia
  3. Describe the clinical presentation of syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia
  4. Correctly perform testing for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea
  5. Confidently manage patient treatment, contact tracing and referrals for syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia
  6. Identify patients for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and initiate treatment & ongoing monitoring

(Session 1 + 3) Hepatitis B and C: An Update for Primary Care (in SEMPHN)

On completion of this training, participants are expected to be able to:

  1. Increase understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination on client outcomes
  2. Improve patient outcomes through early diagnosis, follow up, and appropriate management of hepatitis B and C, including vaccination for hepatitis B.
  3. Ensure regular screening of at-risk patients and confidently interpret hepatitis B and hepatitis C test results
  4. Discuss with patients the hepatitis B treatment options and importance of regular monitoring
  5. Describe Hepatitis C treatment guidelines and mechanisms for prescribing in consultation with or without a specialist
  6. Assess for advanced liver disease, monitor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and refer appropriately
